For today’s post I want to write a little update on my progress so far with 200WaD.

I have been participating in this challenge for a little over a week now and I thought it would be a good time to review how thing’s have been going so far. I guess the first thing to note is my current day streak does not reflect how long I have been doing this and that’s because unfortunately on a few occasions I missed writing my 200 words that day.

It is actually surprisingly more difficult to keep a running streak than I thought it’d be. In the beginning I didn’t think ahead and plan for the days when I knew I would be out of the house overnight or the days when I wouldn’t have much spare time.

The lesson I have taken away from this is to think ahead and plan my writing better. Perhaps on the rare occasions when I will be out of the house for a day I could prepare by writing my 200 words in advance. When I don’t have very much spare time I will set aside a scheduled spare 15 minuets when I can write a quick entry, rather than worrying about spending hours on writing it.

Another lesson I have learned is that it takes me a lot longer to write than I think it will. I have spent upwards of two hours writing some posts while others have been dashed off in 20 minuets or so. I don’t know how long it takes people on average to write a post but I find some days the words come much easier than others.

Participating in this challenge has taught me that writing is actually really difficult and it doesn’t come to me as naturally as I thought it would. I have realised that I need to commit to writing regularly and routinely to help develop the skill. I am learning constantly about the importance of practice practice practice.

One of the things I am enjoying most about this challenge is the freedom it gives me. I can write about absolutely anything and not feeling constrained is so helpful to me at this point in my life. I am able to explore all kinds of different writing styles. I can move seamlessly between fiction, autobiography and true crime. I love the idea that I can sit down at any point during the day and just write whatever I want.

I am really glad that I was introduced to this and decided to give it a go, it is a really enjoyable experience and I am learning a lot.

@soulinantarctica I am happy you are still here. If it were easy, more people would be doing it. #Teamstreak would be hundreds of people instead of 26 people. It is nice to pause and reflect on progress to make adjustments. And we are here to support you. Keep going.
