The past month was the month of Ramadan according to the Islamic calendar, where Muslims typically observe a fast from sunrise to sunset, abstaining from consuming food or drink. My productivity and habits usually suffer during the month because my day shifts into the night: I stay awake till 5 or 6AM, then wake up around noon time.
I don't have my bulletproof coffee or drink water throughout the day, my sleep has already taken a beating, I don't feel as much mental clarity, and I end up eating more dessert than I care to admit.
Yesterday we had a junky Eid lunch (what was eaten at Eid lunch stays at Eid lunch), but since then I resumed my intermittent fasting (yes, back to fasting, but during the day, with plenty of caffeine to keep me going and water to keep me hydrated), stopped eating sugary food, spent half an hour on the treadmill, did some wall push-ups, ate a clean lunch today, and generally feel good about the days ahead.
I feel like the month of Ramadan pulled me back to propel me forward. I feel a deeper appreciation for the habits I want to develop and I'm eager to make the most of my days.
I don't trust me sticking to habits in the first 3 weeks of a change in lifestyle. It's easy to get excited at the beginning, but much harder to sustain the changes. That's why I'm happy to have started, but I can't assume that the days to come will be as easy as today.
Let's see where I end up in 3 weeks.
