Apologies in advance, I’m just going to be ranting about a terrible product experience I had today. It was with Minecraft.

The boys already had a realm set up and had a pretty sweet setup going. I decided I’d join them.

Andrew has two accounts so I figured I’d use his other one (each account costs around $25). Logging in and everything was fine. Andrew invited me to the realm and I accepted. When I tried to join the realm, I got an error: You are not white-listed on this server. What? I just accepted an invite, shouldn’t I be on the whitelist?

We fiddled around with it for a while and thought, maybe, something was wrong with the account. So we try buying a new account for me. None of our credit cards worked. Literally trying to give them money doesn’t work. We eventually set up PayPal and bought the account through that. Horrible, but okay, moving on.

So now, with our new account, we repeat the steps. Andrew invited me, I accepted. same error. We Google the error and people have been experiencing this issue for years. We try turning the realm on and off, we try switching from Mac to Windows. Nothing worked. It boggles my mind that the core functionality of this product doesn’t work. I ended up just going home while they continued playing...

@hum - sad trombone for sure. Hard to allocate funds toward fixing bugs that cause people to buy a new account. :-) I had a similar weird experience recently on the Geico site. I thought the signup procedure was very good. I've been a customer for a few years now. I went to remove a car from my policy and that interaction caused an error leading nowhere -- i.e. they don't want you touching that button -- they'll show an error hoping you just go away.
