People who are healthy and fit seem to have figured out the right diet that works for them. Or maybe they just won the genetic lottery.
As part of my focus to reverse type 2 diabetes, lose weight, and be healthier, I have been trying to figure out the best diet. There are so many choices and so many opinions about which diet is the best diet. One thing I know for sure is the diet I naturally gravitated to over the years put me in bad shape. So the question is, how should I choose the right diet?
Specifically to address diabetes I am watching carbs, or should I saw watching others joyfully eat them while I go without. I am also focusing on foods with a low glycemic index. I also take certain supplements that help with blood sugar control. I am also experimenting with intermittent fasting.
What I am most excited about is using science to help make this important decision. There is a company called Viome that offers genetic and microbiome testing to provide a customized report including foods to eat and foods to stay away from based on the composition of my gut bacteria. This is cutting-edge technology aided by AI algorithms. I am fortunate that I found out about this company, and that I can afford the test ($399/kit). The worst part of the experience is collecting the stool sample, which I just did today. Oh the things I will do to improve my health.
It will likely be several weeks before I have my results. In the meantime, I'll keep taking it one day at a time. Onward to better health.
