I was watching a video about Bill Maher and the comics incident.

I wonder .. Is this just effective marking by the superhero industry?

I didn't follow comics as a kid.

I didn't realize how serious it was until I got to the US. People were shocked when they make a reference to a comic and I have a blank face. Some were visibly angry.

In the recent past, I could watch maybe one or two superhero movies before I couldn't. I was recently complaining about why there were few movies I could watch... The likes of The Big Short, The Vice and The Martian are far and few in between.

To me it's the power of marketing... The comic book/superhero industry has identified the generations of people that grew up with comics and superhero stories still like them... so they continue to create products around that and make the comics and movies more sophisticated.

I am not the target audience so I don't understand it but their target market folks know the release dates, the budget, the date of the comic-con and more..

Is that true or am I just seeing marketing everywhere?

    1) You're seeing marketing everywhere.?
    2) Marketing is actually everywhere.
These aren't bad as such. Marketing in a simple form is a tool to persuade. And you'd agree with me that persuasion is everywhere humans are.

That said, superheroes and comics in my opinion is purely individual preference. For me, i love Super Hero Movies because i love fiction. I love fiction so much. It freely expands the borders of my imagination.

Hence the industry just make content for a ready market and they market it well. E.g Black Panther, Superman and it's several spin-offs (Smallville, Supergirl etc)...

@seunoyebode - That is true. I am a FAN of a few superhero movies too... the XMEN(not sure if they are same genera as superhero) and the early superman were good. But I seem to have lost all taste for the latest variations of superheros and the predictability part. The type of superhero (my definition of that :)) that I like are movies like Limitless, Bourne and Asian Martial arts movies... They seem semi-realistic and I find myself giddy when I watch them. Yup - not the target market at all.

Thank you for your comment and welcome back.
