Last night we, at Sirdab Lab (http://sirdab-lab.com), hosted a members-only event where members get to share a business challenge they're dealing with, and have other members and the Sirdab team offering suggestions on ways the challenge can be dealt with. At the end of the event a member asked me what my challenges were. I told the group I'm keen on creating more content, but I feel stuck whenever I sit to write because I have so many topics I'm interested in and so many things to say. It's never that I don't have ideas, but I struggle to prioritize which ideas to write about at any given time, and I end up oscillating between different topics and projects, without fleshing out a proper piece to publish.

Writing consists of multiple layers: knowing what you want to write about (topic), what message you want to convey (purpose of the piece), an outline for the piece, writing the piece. I need to distinguish between these layers. To set time for planning and organizing, and time where I decide on a single piece to create (an article, chapter, etc) and simply focus on that.

Other pieces of content will have to wait for their time to come. Otherwise no piece will ever materialize.

@haideralmosawi The important thing is you've identified the problem and you also have a good idea as to what success looks like.
Start small (ie. don't aim for perfection, just write an intro, or a thesis statement in 200wad) and slowly improve. Over time, you'll find the flow you're looking for.

@gabrielgreco Thanks for the advice, Gabriel! And you're absolutely right about acknowledging the things going well for me, which I sometimes overlook. Thanks for the reminder. :)

@basilesamel Thanks, Basile! I'm thrilled to be here. (I saw your goal on ProductHunt Makers and thought: what's 200wordsaday? I've been using 750words for years, but that's for private writings. I think the public writing angle helps with breaking out of perfectionism and encourages a publishing habit, too).

@haideralmosawi Hooo so that's how you came across 200WaD! :) I think so too. For people who are not too comfortable with sharing there are also "protected" posts which are only readable by the members of the community. I really wanted to add an Open element to the concept of writing groups, so that's mainly how it came to be! Hope you will like it
