I wrote a post about this a while ago and now I'm experiencing it myself again. I've been lucky to never have a traditional job and be stuck in an office all day. At most I've spent a few months working in an office. I've worked from home since graduating with few meetings in between.
I've never wanted to work in an office. The thought of it always concerned me as a child. Why should I be spending so much time in this place? Why can't I get my work done and leave?
For the past month and the next one, I've been working in an office. And I'm reminded of all the reasons it just isn't for me. It takes a lot of time, I can't manage my own time, and it's exhausting.
But most of all I've had a hard time finding time to work on my own projects. When I do get some time it's enough to get a small task done and then I'm ready for bed. I know many manage it but my unfamiliarity makes it even more difficult. There's so much I'd like to do but I don't have enough time or energy.
In the past week, I've decided to focus on just getting those small tasks done. Every step takes me closer to my destination. I'm incredibly impatient but it's about all I can do now. Fix a bug here, build half of a feature there. It's all getting me closer to where I'd like to be. Not quickly enough, but it's something.
