Everyone is a health guru nowadays.
People are dispensing advice like tic-tac.
I have a hard time listening to my doctors - the one with a medical degree and training leave alone a doctor wannabe.
So when a random stranger tries to tell me how to eat and treat my diabetes, I have a few choice words running in my head. Unfortunately - I see no point in telling these individuals what I am thinking so they continue to provide me with more servings of unsolicited advice.
There are 2 sources I use for health advice. People that have similar health conditions who share their experience. and people in research.
For both cases, I will do more research before I accept what they are telling me. First I always check the reputation of the person, then I look at how they handle new research and how they preach about what they believe. I stay away from 'I am deBomb' personality types immediately.
I spend time looking at research and following people that look into things like nutrition and alternative medicine.
Too many people are self-declared experts nowadays and the healthcare field is a lucrative business.
Unfortunately, I appear to be an ideal target.
