Since I've started writing here I've broken my streak 19 times. And it's almost never been on purpose. It just keeps happening.

In December I took a few days off for my birthday, then Christmas, then the New Year.

Last month I missed a day while travelling. Then I missed a couple of days while sick. Then I was just busy and forgot until it was after midnight.

Early on I had trouble actually finding stuff to write about. I still occasionally do but it's much less of a problem. When I broke my streak in December I struggled to get back into it and almost stopped completely. Since then I've been able to bounce back immediately when I miss a few days.

The streak is a great tool to keep you consistent but I've had to remind myself why I'm doing this in the first place to keep going. I want to write more and I want to get better at writing. Even when I break my streak I just need to remember my goals. It doesn't matter if I missed a day or two I can still succeed at my goals if I write again tomorrow.

So if you've broken your streak it's okay, as long as you get started writing again the next day.

    @keenencharles 100% keep it going!
    I find that midnight "deadline" is hard for me so I choose a different timezone that works well with my schedule. My day "deadline" now falls in mid afternoon.

      @itsabhinaya Ohh that's a good idea. I'm usually up way past midnight anyway so that might work better for me too

    @keenencharles Major props to you, you always keep going on! So many gave up after the first broken streak. I'm going to remove the tear streak from the front page but you are definitely gonna end up at the top of the "most resilient" leaderboard ???

      @basilesamel haha thanks! Maybe there's some way to encourage those users to keep going after a broken streak. An encouragement email after a day or two without writing maybe? That first broken streak was the hardest to get past for me.
