I was driving my car with my brother in the passenger's seat.
Both of us were relaxed after a nice brunch one Sunday morning.

My brother asks randomly - "Are you more of a leader or a follower?"

I pause to think.
I do not like the word "follower". Especially the way it is used in Instagram. Has a cult like feel to it.

But there are people I follow, their books, their interviews and their blogs - Mark Manson!! And I would like to believe that I don't worship them to the point of ignoring their flaws.
But I don't know if I can call myself a leader either. I have led some projects, my business, and some big challenges in the past. But the title of a leader feels heavy.

As I explained that to my brother, I felt like my answer was a cop out. I didn't have a solid response.

He then tells me about a ted talk where the speaker states that:

"All the problems in the world - hunger, war, disease - are a consequence of bad leadership. There is a severe shortage of good leadership in the world."

Interesting. Could it really be just a lack of leadership?

    @keni There's some truth to the quote however there are lots of dynamics leaders have absolutely no control over.

    Have you ever seen an instance where followers of a group / political party fight over clout and yet their leaders are best of friends?

      @seunoyebode - Yes it is true but real good leadership can resolve a lot of issues out there... This post was actually a response to the question you asked me sometime back... a response to your write up on Africa. I fully believe we are in need of a few good leaders to make big changes and resolve a lot of our issues.

      It is not the only solution but it is a big problem.

      @keni I agree.

      With Africa has context, I'd reckon the only problem we have right now is a leadership problem. Nothing more, nothing less.

    @keni I think there is some truth to that quote. Leader is a loaded word. I would focus less on the title of leader and more on what it means. Hey that's probably a topic all in itself for a future post.

      @brandonwilson - Hmm... Yeah. What it means could be different to everyone. A topic by itself indeed.
