This is a continuation of my series on migrating my web site off WordPress and onto Jekyll

★, AKA Linked Posts

In the very beginning, I liked the [John Gruber][14] way of doing linked and commentary posts. It consists in adding a ★ in front of the title of every non-linked post to mark it as such so that people only looking for either short-form content or long-form content can find what they prefer without having to open each article to check it out. I actually did the opposite and put a ★ before each linked article. [Most of those links are now 404 so they don't work anymore (which is really sad)]({% post 20-02-2016-broken-links %}).

It is time to get rid of the star.

I find it to be distracting and not really useful. There isn't really much point to differentiate between the two, especially since I'm publishing way less linked posts as time goes on. People should decide what you read based on the topic and not based on how long or short the article is. If it is too long to read in one sitting there are multiple services to save articles to read later or you can just leave the browser tab open.

I wrote a script similar to the one in the previous section (also reusing a large part of it). It scans the title : line of each markdown file for a ★ and deletes the star if it finds one. If you don't want to write a script for such a simple operation a simple search and replace in your text editor should work as well, assuming you don't use the ★ anywhere else.
