The man that hath no music in himself,

Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,

Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils;

The motions of his spirit are dull as night,

And his affections dark as Erebus,

Let no such man be trusted.

 (From Merchant of Venice)

In the film Yi Yi, there is a conversation about music between Ota and NJ.

Ota: "When I was a little boy, my family was very poor, music makes me believe life is beautiful."

NJ: "My father listened to music every day, but I hated his music. When I was 15, I fell in love, suddenly all of his music meant something. Then she left, but the music stayed with me."

I've never been a huge fan of music, as Shakespeare said, I am "dull as night".

But today, accidentally, I watched a live concert video of My All of Ayumi Hamasaki who is the singer I knew but never heard before.

It's the first time I felt so connected to the music that tears filled my eyes, it makes me "believe life is beautiful".

I didn't want to lose such a feeling of hope and courage, so listened to more songs (not hers).

Then "all of the music meant something", the words, the rhythm, the singers' dance, the background stories, and the tearing audiences, all moved me.

That's my day.
