This morning I read a cool post over on Indie Hackers about a guy why built a productised service called ManyPixels. He wrote a neat little eBook on his journey and experience building the platform.
After reading the post my mind immediately started to launch off into Idea Land. I felt elated - I was bouncing these new concepts around in my head and I had a million thoughts at once. Building a product around a service seemed cool. I thought of my wife and her work with social media ... Maybe there's a productised service around that? I thought about my own work and building websites ... Maybe there's a service around that?
You get the idea...
After a chaotic 20 minute mental brainstorming session, I decided it was time to land back in reality and figure out the viability of my ideas. I chatted with my wife over coffee about the pro's and con's of each new concept. Needless to say, she deflated ideas pretty quickly with her first hand knowledge and experience in the industry.
This was really beneficial and worthwhile, despite the ego deflating real-talk. It's important to have ideas picked apart from someone with experience in the industry as soon as possible. This will help you iterate, pivot or move on without too much skin in the game.
