Parent post: 5 years from now

The writing prompt is:

“What does your future look like 5 years from now if you have developed and sustained a writing practice?”

Like @santhoshguru, I find it hard to imagine what the future looks like 5 months from now let alone 5 years.

But I can say what I want the future to look like if I maintain a writing practice. In fact, I'm motivated to write more because of the changes I want to see in my life.

I enjoy writing and want to do more of it.

Those who read my writings typically respond favorably to them and ask me to write more.

Therefore, not only will writing bring me pleasure as I do it (I'm enjoying writing this piece right now), but it has the potential to have a greater impact in the world and to earn me money in the process.

Why do I want all this?

I want to have more freedom in how I spend my time, where I spend it, and what I spend it on.

There are many topics I'm curious about but hold myself back from pursuing because of the pressure to do work that pays the bills.

Writing - and, more specifically, creating info products - is an opportunity to create passive income that affords me the lifestyle I want.

It's not simply a matter of writing regularly, but shipping regularly. Creating products that deliver value to my audience.

Peter Thiel has an interesting thought experiment. He encourages us to ask ourselves the following question:

“How can you achieve your 10 year plan in the next 6 months?”

In other words: how can we achieve our 5 year vision, from the original prompt, in 5 months?

That's what I plan on doing. :)

@santhoshguru Thank you. Hopefully I'll be able to share more soon. But the basic premise is something you can experiment with, as well: why do we put years between us and our goals? What's stopping us from achieving them in months? What would we need to do differently?
