Remember when you were bored as a kid? What did you do?

I imagined I was a warrior princess and build my own sword out of a piece of wood. Fun times!

The point is, as a kid, you always found something to do. How? You just got creative. You could dream up anything. Turn the floor into lava, pretend your parents were leprechauns, or turn the cat into an evil dragon.

Somehow, we've lost this ability as adults. As soon as we feel the slightest hint of boredom (e.g., at the supermarket checkout, in a traffic jam, waiting for the bus), we whip out the smartphone and let Twitter/Facebook/Instagram take us into la la land.

We can't stand boredom anymore.

But boredom is so important! When we are bored, we push boundaries, because we've already tried everything else. We think of the unthinkable. Fresh ideas come to our minds that are not just a replica of something we've read the night before.

We need to save boredom. How? Schedule time to be bored today. No smartphone allowed! No books allowed. No TV allowed. It's just you and your mind. Be curious where it takes you.

You might have your best idea yet!
