There was a mythos surrounding the first generations of students whispered through the generations. They were the real pioneers: the ones who swam in the ocean every morning, who drank with the teachers and made love openly in the fields, who built a wood chip biomass generator to power the school and who prototyped the Rigid-hulled Inflatable Boats (the patent for which would later be given away for free resulting in the entire world being gifted a new class of ship). Like heroes of old they rode these homemade boats into the surf as part of the National Life Boat Institution, saving people on either side of the cliff face from their base in the castle.

It was no surprise then that the best universities in the world started to covet these larger than life characters and fairly soon it became a feeder school to the Ivy League and Oxbridge. But that was never the intention behind the school. In the same way that some small restaurants who are bestowed Michelin stars start to break apart at the increased attention and subsequent pressure to live up to their award, so did Atlantic College and the dream it was founded upon.
