I have a problem. I have too many product ideas.

Most of them are bad, but I will never know which ones unless I try them out.

My personal Trello board contains 100+ product idea cards. Some others are logged in Evernote, in an ideas.txt file, or on Twitter.

Many complain that they cannot manage to generate ideas. I trained myself to become an idea machine. It is now a curse.

Picture this. You have many ideas that you are excited about and cannot wait to make and share for the world to see. The problem is, time is limited. You will never have enough time in the world to grow all of them into beautiful products.

And this is frustrating. Growing a product takes an insane amount of time. You only have 24 hours a day to take care of your needs, make and develop your creations, while contributing to the community.

If you are just like me, here is my advice.

Take your idea. Write down the few steps you need to take to execute it, to make it a reality. How hard is it? How excited are you about it? Make a list of those ideas, then prioritize them. Take the first one. Put it in front of others. See how people react. Is it helpful? Iterate.

You will never have an infinite amount of time, but you can learn to test out ideas quickly.

Do you still have too many ideas to test out? Share them. Collaborate. Make together.

Nobody is going to steal your ideas, they are worthless.

The possibilities are endless. The opportunities are endless. You have no excuse to let your ideas rot in a forgotten todo list.

@basilesamel So true! I'm the same, and I admit it had been frustrating me, periodically, until recently. And one of the reasons it is not any more is your creation, Baz! I had opened myself up to the "flow" to answer the question of whether to focus, abandoning certain projects, or reorganise to try and keep them all going...and almost immediately, I saw 200wad on Product Hunt and signed up.

Now, I am as busy as I was before, but the difference is I am productive, being creative and doing what I love. And I now have a flow of material I can share with the world through the various websites and join the conversation with something more than (hey look at what I found - which, by the way, often took me longer to find something worth sharing than it would to write something new! Crazy!)

Thanks again - did you think any more about the Twitter-idea-a-day? I think it would be an interesting experiment, if nothing else. Might try it myself, if it's not copyright ;-)

@arthurkendall Thanks so much! :) Glad it helps you in your daily life, and really happy to hear you are sharing your creations!

There is a dude on Twitter who does 5 ideas a day already! It's not a new concept so feel free to innovate.

@basilesamel Well, what you said about ideas reminded me of James Altucher, who talks about turning yourself into an idea machine by coming up with 10 a day (most will be bad so no need to keep them as better ideas will return, evolved, another day). What's original about his approach, which I sometimes share with my students, is idea sex, which I love - combining two or more ideas, which will usually come up with something more original (or at least fun/interesting!)

Will check out the 5-a-day guy and think about possible twists or simply uses of the idea!

      Congratulations on two months, btw!

@arthurkendall Thanks! :) Yes, I was totally quoting him when I said idea machine. I appreciated Choose Yourself.

It's a private one as of now. Would you like to read an idea a day on my Twitter? I've been thinking about it lately.

That's so true! Ideas piled up quicker than it being created.
