I got back from Bahrain to Kuwait (by car) today, and the 5-hour ride was a perfect chance to listen to audiobooks. I started to listen to The Practicing Stoic, which seems like the perfect take on Stoicism I've been looking for, because it blends an explanation of the overall philosophy of Stoicism and the practical reflections modern readers would find beneficial to contemplate (for example, the insight that our reactions to circumstances are really reactions to our opinions on circumstances, and not the circumstances themselves).
Unfortunately, it turned out that I hadn't downloaded the entire book, and I had disabled roaming in Saudi Arabia, so I couldn't continue listening to the book. I decided to listen to Manifest Now by Idil Ahmed, which was recommended to me by a friend. While I haven't bought into the idea of "the law of attraction" or manifestation (attracting the results you want in life through your thoughts and the energy you put out to the universe), but I find it helpful in getting out of my own way. Negative thoughts, doubt, and skepticism impede action. That's what I mean by getting in my own way. I can accomplish great things, but not if I tell myself that I can't.
What are YOU listening to/reading? And what do you feel are some issues you're grappling with and searching for a solution to?
